Commissions & Committees

Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission works to create an official Comprehensive Plan for the present and future development of the Village. Upon adoption of the plan, the Commission works to recommend plans for specific improvement in the pursuit of the official plan. In addition, the Commission holds public hearings to provide recommendations to the Village Board on applications of appeals, special uses and map amendments related to the West Dundee Zoning Ordinance.

The commission consists of seven members appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The commission holds regular meetings as needed, typically on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 pm at Village Hall.

Appearance Review Commission

The Appearance Review Commission reviews site designs to determine compliance with the Appearance Review Code. In the historic district, which encompasses all structures facing Main Street from the River west to Route 31, the commission reviews all applications for demolition, new construction, facade renovations and signs. Outside the historic district the commission reviews limited residential construction and all commercial construction, signs and front yard fences.

The commission consists of five members appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Village Board. The commission holds regular meetings as needed, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at Village Hall.

Fire & Police Commission

The Fire and Police Commission appoints all officers of the fire and police department, except those exempted by ordinance. In addition, the commission conducts and holds all entrance and promotional examinations and participates in any termination activity for all sworn police and fire personnel in the manner provided by law.

The commission consists of three members appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. Local Liquor Control Commission

The Local Liquor Control Commission reviews applications for new and renewal liquor and video gaming licenses, daily liquor permit requests, and presides over hearings for local liquor ordinance infractions.

The commission consists of three members, including the Village President as Chairperson and two members of the Village Board, appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Village Board. The commission holds meetings as needed, most typically at 7:15 pm on evenings on which a Village Board Meeting is scheduled, at Village Hall.
