The Police Department is staffed by 21 full-time sworn officers, 3 full-time civilian employees, 6 part-time civilian employees and 1 K9 “Rocco”.
The Police Department provides 24-hour protection for residents, businesses and the thousands of visitors and patrons who support West Dundee’s business community. The West Dundee Police Department takes a proactive approach to law enforcement by using prevention and education as its primary tools.
Personnel are dispatched to calls for service by the QuadCom Regional Dispatch Center located in Carpentersville. This center is a 9-1-1 emergency dispatch system which serves 5 police agencies and 4 fire agencies. On average, the Department receives approximately 8,000 calls for service throughout the year. A majority of these calls are non-violent crime which includes traffic enforcement, motor vehicle crashes, thefts, deceptive practice and other forms of fraud.
In addition to the normal law enforcement activities, the Police Department sponsors several community-oriented programs including:
Child Safety Seat Inspections The department has one certified child safety seat technician that inspects child safety seats to ensure that they are properly installed in vehicles. These inspections are provided free of cost but are done by appointment only.
C.A.L.F.
Children Are Loved Forever is focused on the needs and concerns of children, and builds a lasting partnership between police officers and the children of the community.
D.A.R.E.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a program for grade school and middle school children, which teaches them about the harmful effects of drug abuse. D.A.R.E. gives children several methods they can use to resist peer pressure and drug use.
House Watch
Residents going out of town for an extended period can register with the Police Department for the House Watch program. Under the program, a police officer will check on your house at least once per night and monitor for suspicious activity.
Neighborhood Watch
This program is designed to educate residents in the principles of crime prevention and awareness and to coordinate the citizen’s efforts to monitor and report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood.
Stranger Awareness
This program is provided to Kindergarteners, First and Second Grade children to help them learn about, identify and teach them to say “no” to strangers.
